Australia App Market Statistics (2026)

Compared to its population size, Australia has a strong app market, consistently ranking in the top 20 markets globally.

The country has a decent ecosystem of app developers and popular local apps, alongside the usual global superstars. The market is a mix of popular Western and Asian apps, such as ChatGPT, HBO Max and WhatsApp alongside AliExpress, Temu and TikTok.

Time spent on mobile apps is about average for West Europe and North America, but lower than its Asian neighbours. It became the first country to ban social media apps for under 16s, in an attempt to reduce the amount of time spent children spend on devices.

Australia has been attempting with its cellular network providers to rollout internet to remote places in the country. Around 11 percent of Australians, 2.8 million people, are currently "highly excluded" from digital services and either do not have access to affordable internet or don't know how to use it. First Nations communities are particularly affected by poor digital inclusion.

It has also been bringing more of its government services online, with a rollout of identity service myGovID in 2025 and other day-to-day services expected to follow in the near future.

We have collected data and statistics on the Australian mobile app market. Read on below to find out more.
