Grok Revenue and Usage Statistics (2026)

Grok is one of the growing list of generative AI chatbots available to use, developed by Elon Musk’s xAI research lab as a direct competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. It launched first on the microblogging app X first as part of the subscription service, and opened to all X users in 2024 with a dedicated app following shortly afterwards.

Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 with Sam Altman and a bunch of other computer scientists and programmers, but fell out with the OpenAI board in 2018 following internal disagreements and its partnership with Microsoft. This feud continued to fester as OpenAI grew in valuation and importance, with Musk creating xAI seemingly as a philosophical alternative to OpenAI.

When it first launched, Grok had a more distinct personality than other chatbots, apparently modelled on The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy tone. Musk also claimed that it would be “less politically correct” than other models, which he has attempted to model several times with updates aimed at making it more receptive to right-wing talking points.

Similar to Reddit, X has a rather valuable archive of organic language data, which xAI has used in the development of Grok. At the same time, xAI doesn’t need to invest heavily into the marketing of X, as it can promote the app freely through X, which has around 400 million active users.

We have collected data and statistics on Grok. Read on below to find out more.
