Sora Revenue and Usage Statistics (2026)

Sora is the latest app from artificial intelligence research organization OpenAI, which uses the company’s text-to-video AI model, also called Sora, to generate 20 second videos through text prompts. The videos can then be shared on a feed similar to TikTok, or downloaded and published to the wider social world.

The launch of the app follows a nine month invite-only trial on web, which was available in a handful of countries. With the launch of Sora 2, Sora 1 is now available in most of OpenAI’s supported countries. The new app and Sora 2 is only available in the United States and Canada, and is invite only.

OpenAI is not the first to unleash text-to-video to the wider public, but given the success of ChatGPT over the past three years, there is a lot of anticipation and fear on the release of Sora.

Already, there were worries about text-to-video apps being used to create deepfakes and used by scammers to target vulnerable individuals. OpenAI has added some barriers, but TikTok and Instagram are already flooded with celebrities, influencers and regular people saying all kinds of wacky and weird things.

That said, there were similar fears when OpenAI launched DALLE. Due to the open sourcing of a lot of AI models, bad actors will have ways to create videos and images, and at least if OpenAI and other operators have their versions the vast majority of users will be unable to create harmful material. If harmful material is created on these apps, the operators will also be more likely to modify the model to prevent this from happening again.

Google already has Veo 3, its own text-to-video model, available to use through its Google AI Studio. It would not be a surprise if Anthropic, Meta and others debut similar apps in the near future, or integrate text-to-video into their chatbots.

We have collected data and statistics on Sora. As the app grows, we will have more data available here. Read on below to find out more.
